Local Information

Tetbury is the home of the world famous Woolsack Races which are held on the last Monday in May each year. Competitors have to race up and down the impossibly steep Gumstool Hill which connects the Royal Oak to the town centre. (Don't worry, there are less energetic routes to town!)

May is a busy month in the town as the Badminton Horse Trials take place during the first full week of the month and the town is buzzing with visitors and locals alike. The Gatcombe Park Festival of British Eventing takes place each August.

Another poplar event in the region is the Cheltenham Festival in mid-March which includes the prized Gold Cup race.

All year round, the beauty of the Westonbirt Arboretum attracts global interest, especially in mid-October and late December.

Tetbury is an ideal base for touring The Cotswold area and is in easy reach of the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham. The town itself boasts many listed buildings, each with their own charm and individual features, in fact the whole town has been placed under a preservation order so you can be assured that it will retain its inherent beauty for many years to come.

Other local attractions include Woodmancote Manor House, Berkeley Castle, Beaufort Polo Matches, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust, the Roman remains at Cirencester and racing at Castle Coombe.

For those who want to stay a little closer to home, Tetbury itself has many independent shops and is renowned as an antique hunter's heaven!
